It cannot read your page
The map runs in its own frame. It cannot see your page's content, your forms, or anything your visitors type. Your page cannot reach into it either.
Embed guide
No plugin, no account for your web person, no change to your hosting. Paste one script tag where you want the map and it appears there.
Paste this into your page where the map should appear. We give you the exact line with your own agency name already in it, so there is nothing to fill in.
<script src="https://app.milestracking.com/embed.js" data-agency="your-agency"></script>That is the whole installation. It works in any content management system that lets you paste HTML — WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Drupal, a hand-written page, or a CMS your city's IT department built years ago.
All optional. Add them to the same tag as extra attributes.
| Attribute | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
data-agency | required | Your agency name, lower-case — the same one in your map URL. We give you this. |
data-height | 480 | Height of the map in pixels. Clamped to a sensible range so the map can never collapse to nothing. |
data-theme | auto | auto, light or dark. Auto follows your own page. |
data-list | on | The vehicle list beside the map. Turn it off for a narrow column. |
data-routes | on | Draw your route lines on the map. |
data-stops | on | Draw your stops on the map. |
data-target | — | The id of an element to render into. Without it the map appears where the script tag sits. |

A rider looking at the map does not sign in and is not given a cookie by the map. Nothing about them is stored. See the privacy policy.
The widget owns its own height and lets your page own the width, so it fits a sidebar or a full-width section without fighting your stylesheet.
A vehicle that has stopped reporting is not left sitting at its last position pretending to be live. The map says when it was last heard from.
Some organisations — councils and hospitals especially — run a content security policy that lists which sites may be framed. If yours does, your web person needs to add our app host to the frame-src list. That is the only change required on your side, and it is the same one-line kind of change as the script tag itself.
If the map cannot load for any reason, the space does not sit blank: it falls back to a plain link to your hosted map, so a visitor can always still get to it.
You do not have to. Every agency gets a hosted map at its own address that you can link to from your website, put on a printed sign as a QR code, or send in a text message. The embed is for when you want it to live inside your own page — see the live map on your website.
